Todays trip

Setting off on the dot of 9 a.m. Ian gives the children at the campsite a quick ride before starting off with Frank on the open road heading towards Chippenham, Malmesbury and beyond. A quick stop at the superstore to replenish stores (obviously the exotic counters for Gill and Mary, even if they have told me they just need veg) and then onwards. Much of the road today is single track, so we make our presence felt on other traffic. A few spots of rain threaten to spoil the party, but just by Kemble Airfield we spy two other beautiful Singers in a layby. Cyril with his Singer 9 Sports 1933 and
Nick with his Singer 1935 Lemans 4 seater Longtail. This is the same model as Kevitt's who met us at Lands End so I think my date was wrong for Kevitt's car - apologies! Nick is registrar for this model in the club, so he knows all with this Singer. Moving along on the A429 and passing through the picturesque town of Moreton-on-Marsh, we all stop in a long layby for lunch. A magnificent 60 miles have already been covered - and it isn't even 1 o'clock yet! Everyone is feeling very pleased with themselves, but we hadn't got to those lovely hills coming away from Halford once we turned onto the B4455 Fosse Way yet! However, that miracle 1907 glides, chugs and potters up the vertigious inclines without a backward glance and now here we are at the end of the day in Meridan, the very centre of Britain!
