DAY 5 AUGUST 26TH SELBY TO ?

Ha ha ha, bet it was raining on you all today - but not on us!!! A few tiddly spits we almost didn't notice this morning and a little chilly, but we are still travelling up our corridor of fine weather! Fantastic morning's drive up the A19 with only a minor detour when I put my left arm out too early (and Ian was chatting). I am discovering that Ian and Mary are living my life a few years ahead of me. There seem to be a number of parallel pursuits and antics between us and it is becoming apparent that we share a common sense of adventure - and are game for most things. So pleased he, Mary, Steve and Gill were up for this trip.

We had a slightly later start this morning of 9.03 departure and were on our way with more substantial clothing. Ian had on his leather cap with ear muffs (and handy small peak he can unpop from its popper to shield his eyes if the sun comes out. I only mention this as he seemed particularly proud that his hat had this, whereas Mary's doesn't it would seem). The first people we meet this morning are friends of Ian and Mary's, so an impromptu stop is made for a chat with Andy and Penny. Andy is the man who has supplied the spare tyres on a sale or return should they be needed. Soon to arrive also are Steve and Gill's two daughters, Sarah and Katy, with their son-in-law Richard. Not only were they coming for a brief visit of support, but also to bring a jerry can so that we can be sure of having enough fuel to get to John O'Groats once we are past Inverness. Naturally, Sarah and Katy were keen for a ride so they joined us for a few miles. The car didn't bat an eyelid with four people on board and just kept eating up the highway!
