TECHNICAL PREPARATION

Ian has given me a few details of the preparations that have been going on with the car.  I'm not sure whether it's known or not, but this 1907 Singer is apparently the oldest road-worthy Singer in the world! So there's a challenge for all of you out there to find an older one!  Anyway, obviously it is going to need loving care to sooth it along it's route to Scotland and to ease it towards the journey's start.  So this is the technical stuff  on what has been done in Ian's own words -

Hi
The main items-
Checked wheel bearings
Changed Differential & Gearbox oil
Greased all round
Stripped fan bearing & found it was a cycle bottom bracket, loose ball bearings & axle without cotter pin recesses
Made extension to windscreen to fit under new hood
Fitted ‘loose covers’ to rear of seats to protect originals
Checked passports for Cornwall & Scotland
Made lists for tools, spare parts, consumables & ‘bodging bits'.

Sadly, I only understand the last four statements, but aim to improve as the trip progresses!

We have been contacted by a number of people from Scotland who are keen to meet up with us as we cross the border.  Kevitt, David, Keith and Alec are the  names of just a few who I know will forgive us for any lack of precision in achieving exact arrival times and even route deviations.  Also, thanks to others who are getting in touch and wishing us well for the trip and to those who hope to meet us at the Poole photo shoot.
